Rangers boss Steven Gerrard has revealed the 18-month plan for Nathan Patterson who has just signed a new deal at the club. Steven Gerrard talked about the plan from now till the end of next season in reaction to the new deal penned by the young defender. According to Steven Gerrard, himself and the sporting director Ross Wilson have discussed the plan for the next 18 months with the player and have made their expectations clear to the Scotland u-21 international.

Liverpool legend Steven Gerrard said that Nathan Patterson is an example of the pathway that exists for youth team players. According to him, the Academy players at Rangers have the opportunity to make the step up to the first team squad just like Nathan Patterson.

On the new deal signed by Nathan Patterson, Rangers sporting director Ross Wilson expressed his delight at the rapid development of the player as he added that the right-sided defender has shown strong progress. The sporting director revealed how Nathan Patterson has made a strong impression on Steven Gerrard and his staff in training and whenever he has been given the opportunity to play in the first team.

Ross Wilson and Steven Gerrard both pointed out the influence that club skipper James Tavernier has had on the young defender though the 19-year-old has seen limited playing time at right-back due to the fact that the Rangers captain is the undisputed first choice in the position. This didn’t stop Patterson from signing a new contract extension until 2024. He signed a new two-year deal to take his Rangers contract to the end of the 2023/24 season. His new deal takes him two years beyond that of James Tavernier who has been in good form as the club’s undisputed first choice right-back. Rangers skipper Tavernier has a contract at the club until the end of the 2021/22 season.
