GERRARD BACKS MOYES

Manchester United will be going into the new Premier league season with the new manager at the helm for the first time in history. Liverpool captain Steven Gerrard has said that he hopes that the impressive record United have had of not wobbling over the course of the season changes under new manager David Moyes. United have rarely shown signs of weaknesses over the course of a Premier league season. It has been partly responsible for them lifting 13 Premier league titles since its inception main 1992.

However, Gerrard is of the opinion that they will have matches in which they will struggle unlike in the past due to the absence of Sir Alex Ferguson, who is widely regarded as one of the best managers in the world. Despite this, Gerrard is confident that United will be up there challenging for the title once again because he thinks David Moyes is also a good manager. Many will be unsure of what to expect from United under the new management. However, Gerrard thinks that people can expect the same job that he did at Everton.

Moyes was the manager of Everton for more than a decade during which time he managed to keep them in contention for a European place despite being on a low budget.

“They have replaced a world-class manager with another, who has done a fantastic job at Everton. So I think David will continue to do a good job there. It’s new for Manchester United. From a biased point of view, let’s hope they have a wobble! I think they have too many good players to fall out of the title race. They have world-class players and I expect them to fight for the league again. There’s no getting away from it,” said Gerrard, who expects Tottenham and Arsenal to also challenge for the title.

TERRY BACKS RODGERS

Chelsea defender John Terry has heaped praise on Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers, who was an assistant manager at Chelsea for a few years before deciding to go down the managerial route himself. Rodgers was one of the assistant managers at the club during the regime of José Mourinho. He has later managed clubs like Reading and Swansea. Following an impressive debut season in the Premier league with Swansea, Rodgers was given the opportunity to manage the five-time European champions Liverpool.

Rodgers has had a difficult time at Anfield since he has had to rebuild the team. They were initially expected to challenge for a top four spot, but they are looking likely to miss out on the Champions league football once again. However, the team has certainly made progress since the days of Kenny Dalglish, when they finished the season in the eighth position – their lowest in recent decades. Now, the team are just a few places below the top contenders like Arsenal and Chelsea. Even though they remain six points behind Merseyside rivals Everton going into the weekend’s match, Terry has said that he expects Liverpool to be strong from next season.

The club have made several high-profile signings like Daniel Sturridge and Joe Allen since the arrival of Rodgers.

“I know Brendan very well. He is a great manager and was brilliant for me and the other players. I can only speak highly of him. There were many ways he helped me. When Jose was there he was always around. A couple of times I was left out of the side or injured and he’d pull me to one side. At the time it was something nobody had ever done and it just goes to show his man-management and how well he’s doing and how well he’ll do in the future,” said Terry.

GERRARD HAILS COLE

The skipper of the England football team, Steven Gerrard, has hailed Ashley Cole for his wonderful international career and has said that Cole is one of the best defenders that England has ever produced.

The upcoming friendly match against Brazil is going to be Cole’s 100th match for England.

When asked about Cole’s international career, Gerrard said, “He has been a great servant of English football over the years. He is certainly one of the best defenders that I have played alongside with. He has had a great international career. To play 100 matches for your country is really great. It will be a special occasion for Ashley.”

“He has put up a lot of match winning performances for England. I don’t think England has ever produced a better left back than him. I am extremely lucky to have got the chance to play alongside such a great player.”

In 2008, Cole was booed by the England supporters in a match against Kazakhstan. That was because Cole’s back pass had given Kazakhstan the opportunity to score a goal. However, England had won that match by a huge margin of 5-1.

When asked about that incident, Gerrard said, “It was a long time ago. After that, Cole has won quite a few matches for England and has earned a lot of respect. He deserves a lot of appreciation for what he has done for the England team in the last few years. The fans also know that.”

The manager of the England U21 team, Stuart Pearce, has also hailed Cole. Pearce said, “Cole is a great defender. He has been an unsung hero of many England victories over the years. He is one of the most dedicated players that you will ever see.”

Liverpool vs Fulham Betting Preview

Saturday’s late kick off in the Premier League sees twelfth place Liverpool host a Fulham side one place, and two points below them.

The Reds go in to the game on the back last weekend’s shock 3-1 defeat to Aston Villa, a result that means that only Villa themselves, Sunderland and the bottom three have a worse record in front of their own fans this campaign.

Liverpool have no fresh injury problems, with Oussama Assaidi, Martin Kelly and Fabio Borini remaining the only absentees. Full back Jose Enrique could feature following a hamstring injury, whilst midfielder Nuri Sahin has recovered from surgery on a broken nose.

Captain Steven Gerrard, whose consolation goal last Saturday was his first in eleven league games, is 9.0 (8/1) with a variety of firms to open the scoring, while top scorer Luis Suarez is favourite at a best price of 4.5 (7/2).

The home win is favoured with 1.57 (4/7) the best price on offer, with Fulham a 7.0 (6/1) shot with some bookmakers. The draw is 4.1 (31/10) with Bet Victor.

The visitors were beaten previously winless Queens Park Rangers last time out, and have won just once in nine outings.

They too have no new injury concerns, with full back Sacha Reither available after recovering from a knee problem though midfielder Steve Sidwell is suspended.

Mladen Petric got his fifth goal of the season with his sides late consolation at Loftus Road, and is as highly priced as 13.0 (12/1) to get the first goal of the game, just behind Dimitar Berbatov who is 12.0 (11/1).

NOLAN IS LIKE GERRARD

The West Ham manager Sam Allardyce has compared the midfielder Kevin Nolan with the Liverpool captain Steven Gerrard by saying that he is as influential as the England international is to Liverpool. Steven Gerrard has been one of the influential players for Liverpool over the past decade. The 32-year-old midfielder is known for his surging runs and he has often helped Liverpool to come back from dire situations. Allardyce has compared the leadership qualities of the Liverpool midfielder to those of the West Ham midfielder Kevin Nolan. Allardyce was instrumental in bringing the former Newcastle midfielder to Upton Park when he took over at the club last season.

Kevin Nolan was one of the important players for the club as they returned to the top flight in the first instance. He has also been a major influence at the club after they have climbed up to the top half of the table this season. This has led to comparisons with Steven Gerrard. Nolan also plays in the same position as Steven Gerrard – just behind the striker. He has been able to get numerous goals as well playing in this position. However, he is more than just scoring goals according to the manager Allardyce.

“In terms of handling the captaincy he is very similar to Gerrard. He brings an awful lot more to this team and this club than just being a good, goalscoring midfield player. He’s good in the dressing room. He’s good at creating a good environment and he’s strong enough to weed out the possible troublemakers. And the consistency he has always produced in the Premier League has proven that if you want that type of player to play for England, then he is good enough,” said Allardyce. West Ham recently lost 3-2 in a match against Liverpool.

GERRARD HAPPY WITH 100

The England midfielder Steven Gerrard has said that he is extremely happy and thrilled to represent the England national team for the 100th match. The Liverpool midfielder will be able to make his 100th appearance for the England national team if he plays in the friendly match against Sweden next week. He made his debut for the national team in the 2-0 win over Ukraine back in 2000. During this period, he has been the shining light of the golden generation of the England national team. The 32-year-old midfielder is expected to compete with David Beckham in the next few years if he carries on the same level.

David Beckham is currently the record appearance holder for the England national team and he is a few matches ahead of the Liverpool man. Even though he was a peripheral figure at the World Cup 2010, he once again returned back strongly at the Euro 2012. Many of whom doubted his potential with the national team after the 2010 FIFA World Cup were extremely surprised to see him as one of the best players for England in an otherwise poor tournament at the Euro 2012. Gerrard recently said that he is enjoying playing for England just as in the same way when he made his debut 12 years ago.

“I’m loving it as much as if it was my first cap. I’ve been around the set-up an awful long time. But I don’t feel old; I’m not getting bored with it. I still feel fresh, looking forward to the next game as much as my debut. Every time you put the England shirt on, it is a proud moment,” said the England midfielder after his 99th match against Poland a few weeks back. England managed only a draw from this match.

GERRARD WILL START

The skipper of the England national football team, Steven Gerrard, has said that he is completely fit and he would definitely play in England’s next World Cup qualifying game against Ukraine. Gerrard had played for only 45 minutes in England’s first World Cup qualifying match against Moldova. He didn’t come to play in the second half. After that, there have been speculations that Gerrard is suffering from an injury. But, the English captain has denied all those reports and said that he just wanted to have a bit of rest. So, he decided not to go on the field in the second half. There is nothing to worry about his fitness.

Gerrard seemed to be delighted with the performance of his team in the match against Moldova. England won the match against Moldova by a huge margin of 5-0. The English team absolutely demolished Moldova in that match. The Moldova players didn’t have any answer of the attacking game of the English team. Gerrard said that it was nice to see the guys playing in full flow. The team went into the match with all guns blazing and the body language of the players was tremendous.

Gerrard said that when you play against a team like Moldova, you tend to get a bit casual at times. But, each and every player gave 100% effort and winning the first match in such a convincing fashion is something fantastic. On being asked about Frank Lampard who netted twice in the match against Moldova, Gerrard said that Lampard is an experienced player and it was nice to see him playing with such intensity after recovering from the injury. He looked in brilliant form and hopefully, he would keep playing with the same kind of energy level in the further matches as well.

GERRARD BACKS RODGERS

The skipper of Liverpool, Steven Gerrard, has said that the new manager of the club, Brendan Rodgers, is doing a very good job with the young guys in the training sessions and under his guidance, the team would be able to qualify for the Champions League in the upcoming season. Liverpool hasn’t been able to play in the Champions League since the last three seasons. In the last season, they finished at no. 8 in the premier league which was a very poor performance according to the standard of Liverpool. After that, Kenny Dalgish was terminated from the post of the manager.

However, the owners of Liverpool, Tom Werner and John W Henry, have said that Rodgers would not be pressurized and he would be given ample time to build the team. As per Gerrard, if the Liverpool players play up to their potential, the team could easily finish in top 4 in the upcoming season. On being asked about the termination of Dalgish, Gerrard said that the club’s decision to remove Dalgish was an obvious one. Finishing at no. 8 was awful. However, the English midfielder has also said that Dalgish was not solely responsible for the team’s poor performance. The players were equally responsible for that.

Gerrard said that Rodgers has brought a lot of positivity in the camp and he is trying to change the attitude of the team. He wants the team to be more aggressive and play like a champion side. He is a bit different from the other managers and he has his own working style. On being asked about the transfer rumours related to Andy Carroll, Gerrard said that it’s the duty of the management to decide about the transfer issues and he has nothing to do with it.

GERRARD WANTS TOP

England captain Steven Gerrard has said that he wants England to top the group ahead of France. England go into the final group match against Ukraine knowing that they can still finish top of the group D if results go their way. Steven Gerrard has said that it certainly does not matter whether England finished top of the group or not because either way they will be facing a former world champion in the form of Spain or Italy. However, Steven Gerrard wants to finish top of the group because it would provide great confidence for the members of the team.

England have been boosted by the return of Wayne Rooney, who is once again available for selection after being suspended for the first two matches of the Euro 2012. England drew the first match against France 1-1, but were more entertaining in the second group game against Sweden. The 3-2 victory coupled with the impressive performances from Danny Welbeck and Andy Carroll would have certainly been a great confidence for the other team members knowing that they need not really every time on the Manchester United striker Wayne Rooney. Gerrard is expected to play an important role in the match against Ukraine, despite reports suggesting that he might be rested.

He told I Love Liverpool “the aim is always to finish top of the group. It is important we do not get ahead of ourselves and start worrying about who we can meet in the quarter-finals. There is a very important and very difficult job to do tomorrow night first. The aim is to win the game and see where that takes us. he lads are working very hard. They are training very well. We are recovering very well. We have got an excellent team behind the main football team. It is a professional atmosphere. We are enjoying it, because we are playing well,” said Gerrard.

SUAREZ IS ONE OF THE BEST

Liverpool midfielder Steven Gerrard has praised striker Luis Suarez by saying that he is one of the best in the world. The Liverpool midfielder praised the striker after he scored a wonder goal in the match against Norwich to seal his hat-trick. Gerrard spoke about the vision the Uruguay international possessed within him in order to spot the goalkeeper out of this line from the centre circle. It was a goal that was very much reminiscent of the one David Beckham scored during his time in England. It means that Luis Suarez now has his first hat-trick of the season and for Liverpool as well.

Liverpool will be taking on Chelsea in the FA Cup final next weekend. Prior to that, they have a league game as well. As a result, Liverpool manager Kenny Dalglish decided to rest Steven Gerrard for the match against Norwich City. He is expected to be back in the squad for the FA Cup final match. Liverpool had the opportunity to win the second title of the season after they have already lifted the Carling cup, but Gerrard reckons that it will be a tough match against Chelsea. Chelsea will be coming into the match on the back of a good run of form, which has seen them eliminate the current European Champions Barcelona from the Champions League, while they also eliminated Tottenham from the semifinals.

“He’s a special player, his movement’s first class and it makes my job as a midfielder easier alongside him. He’s a top player, one of the best in the world on his day, and today was his day. It was great finishing and we as a team could have had more. That’s the type of player he is, but I still had confidence he could get the third,” said Gerrard.
